Overview
Eastern Thailand is the coast and islands east of Bangkok. Isaan, the Northeast, is a separate area. Places here include Pattaya, a coastal city with a dense central strip, islands such as Koh Samet, Koh Mak and Koh Kood, and Chanthaburi, a provincial capital known for its gem trade.
Islands here are reached by boat from different mainland piers. Koh Mak can be reached from Laem Ngop or Laem Sok, depending on the ferry operator, so confirm the pier when you book. Conditions near the Cambodian border can change, so check current official travel advice before planning anything there.
