Pattaya is a self-governing coastal city split between a dense central strip and a quieter southern beach. Which end you base yourself in changes the trip more than the map distance suggests.
Central Pattaya (Beach Road / Walking Street) and Jomtien Beach, about 3km south, are genuinely different bases — walkable nightlife and shopping versus a longer, quieter beach with condos rather than bars.

When to go
Dry season brings clearer skies and busier beaches; rainy season brings short afternoon downpours rather than all-day washouts.
Getting there & around
Getting there
U-Tapao is the closest airport but has far fewer scheduled routes than Bangkok's airports; most travelers still route through Suvarnabhumi, which has frequent direct airport-bus service to Pattaya.
Getting around
Songthaew (baht bus) covers fixed loops along Beach Road, Sukhumvit, and Jomtien cheaply, but only on those fixed routes; Grab/Bolt cover the rest door-to-door.
