Overview

Koh Kood is reached by ferry from Laem Sok, a pier on the Trat mainland coast.

Good to know

Boat schedules change with the season — confirm the exact route (Koh Kood Princess or Boonsiri) and timing before booking.

Where to stay

Klong Chao

The all-rounder base: a long, gently-shelving beach with resorts and restaurants directly behind it, calm swimming water, and the Klong Chao river for a kayak trip upstream toward the waterfall.

Dining within walking distance, without needing a scooter.

Ao Tapao

The quieter, more photogenic alternative: a clean curve of pale sand and clear, shallow water with far less built up behind it.

Fewer resorts and diners, more space.

Bang Bao Beach

The island's largest and most accessible beach, a ~2.5km curved bay with white sand and long, shallow water.

May suit families wanting a long, shallow stretch to swim in.

Ao Phrao

The most secluded of the island's accessible beaches, a sheltered bay with only two small resorts and no village development.

May suit travelers prioritizing seclusion over restaurant/resort density.

When to go

November–April is the dry season and the busiest, most expensive period, with the widest range of boats and accommodation available and the most frequent ferry schedules. May–October brings heavier, less predictable monsoon rain, rougher seas, reduced ferry frequency, and some resort closures — but lower prices and quieter conditions.

Getting there & around

Getting there

From Laem Sok Pier on the Trat mainland, two ferry operators cross to the island — the Koh Kood Princess and the faster Boonsiri service, which also calls at Koh Mak — each bundling a connecting taxi at one or both ends of the crossing; exact fares, journey times, and stop patterns vary and are worth confirming before booking. To reach Laem Sok itself from Bangkok, travelers can take a combined bus-and-ferry package with a morning departure from central Bangkok and afternoon arrival on the island, or fly Bangkok Airways to Trat Airport and transfer by taxi to Laem Sok for a faster but pricier route.

Getting around

On the island, motorbike rental gives flexibility across beaches but crosses steep, narrow roads that turn dangerously slippery in rain — a full-face helmet and international driving permit are recommended. Public taxis, including a resort-run service from Siam Beach Resort in Bang Bao Bay, are the alternative for travelers who prefer not to self-drive.

How Koh Kood fits your trip

May suit island stays built around a quiet, spread-out choice of beaches — an all-rounder base near restaurants and a river (Klong Chao) or a quieter, more secluded beach with fewer facilities (Ao Phrao/Ao Tapao).

Dates, other stops, and what matters on this trip can make this fit clearer.
