Good to knowTiming matters

Boat schedules thin out considerably in the low season (roughly June–October) — confirm which gateway route is actually running before planning around it.

Where to stay

Pattaya Beach

The main arrival point and busiest area, where all ferries and speedboats dock and where the highest concentration of restaurants, bars, and hotels sits.

Maximum convenience for first-time visitors and short stays.

Sunrise Beach

The longest and calmest beach, with calm water suited to swimming and snorkeling.

A quieter all-round base for many visitors, including families, while staying walkable to Pattaya's Walking Street.

What it's like

Things to do

  • Koh Adang Viewpoint trail — A steep, ~45-minute jungle climb on a slippery rocky path (sturdy shoes recommended) to a panoramic lookout over Koh Lipe; suited to travelers fit enough for the climb.
  • Program 1 multi-island longtail tour — A day visiting roughly five destinations around Koh Lipe by longtail boat, without a strenuous hike.

Plan your visit

When to go

Boat schedules thin out considerably in the low season (roughly June–October), when Pak Bara sailing frequency drops well below the high-season (November–April) level — though Koh Lipe itself, unlike the rest of Tarutao National Marine Park, stays open to visitors year-round. Confirm current service before planning around it.

Getting there & around

Getting there

Two gateway routes exist: the Pak Bara Pier speedboat crossing (~1hr30) from mainland Thailand, or a direct international ferry from Langkawi, Malaysia — clearing Malaysian exit immigration at Kuah Jetty or Telaga Harbour Marina — for travelers combining a Malaysia leg or entering/exiting overland-by-sea.

Getting around

There are no cars on the island. Grab is not available; sidecar motorbike taxis run a fixed per-person fare to any point on the island, while longtail boats — arranged through resorts or negotiated directly with boatmen — handle beach-to-beach transfers and trips to nearby islands.

How Koh Lipe fits your trip

May suit island stays built around swimming and snorkeling from a calm, longer beach (Sunrise Beach) or a busier arrival-point base with more restaurants and bars (Pattaya Beach); a multi-island longtail day trip is available as an add-on.

Dates, other stops, and what matters on this trip can make this fit clearer.
