Good to knowTiming matters

The cool season (Nov-Feb) brings active wildlife but busier trails, while the rainy season (Jun-Oct) brings fuller waterfalls and muddier, leech-prone trails — self-driving via Highways 1 and 2 is faster but tolls (roughly 300 baht, confirm current rate) apply versus the slower bus/minivan option.

What it's like

Things to do

  • Park tours — Mainstream cheap day tours from Bangkok typically cover only waterfalls, viewpoints, and the visitor center. A dedicated wildlife tour with an experienced English-speaking guide makes longer jungle trails walkable and more elusive animals visible.
  • Wineries — GranMonte Vineyard spans over 100 rai with more than 10 grape varieties for tasting and touring. PB Valley Winery is a separate stop often added to a full-day outside-park tour.

When to go

The cool season (Nov-Feb) brings 15-25°C temperatures, misty mornings, and active wildlife, but busier trails. The rainy season (Jun-Oct) brings waterfalls at full power, muddy leech-prone trails, and elephants seen more often near roads.

Getting there & around

Getting there

A minivan from Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) costs about 70 baht and takes 1-2 hours. A long-distance overnight bus from Trat costs about 395 baht and takes 7-9 hours.

Getting around

A bus or minivan from Bangkok's Mo Chit terminal to Pak Chong is a budget but slower option, typically 5-6 hours for 300-400 baht. Self-driving via Highways 1 and 2 takes about 3 hours plus roughly 300 baht in tolls, with more flexibility to reach Thanarat Road resorts and wineries independently.
