Overview

Sichon is a Gulf-coast beach town in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, distinct from the nearby Khanom coast, reached by flying into Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport or via the southern-line train's own Sichon stop.

Good to know

A private vehicle makes the scattered coast far easier to explore than the minivans serving Sichon from the city and Surat Thani; Sichon's own railway station is served only by slower ordinary and rapid trains.

What it's like

Things to do

  • Beaches — Hat Sichon is sheltered by a breakwater built to protect the adjacent fishing port, taming the surf into a reasonable pick for families or weaker swimmers. Hin Ngam Beach, by contrast, is a rounded-stone boulder beach with no facilities — a scenic coastal-landscape stop rather than a full-service beach.
  • Inland vs. coastal excursion — Wat Chedi (Ai Khai), inland in Chalong subdistrict, is a pilgrimage temple known for its rooster-statue offerings tied to devotion to the monk Luang Pu Thuat. The Sichon-Khanom coastal scenic road instead runs north past headlands and bays toward Khao Phlai Dam on the way to Khanom.

Getting there & around

Getting there

Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport, about an hour away by road, is the practical flying gateway, with a private vehicle making the scattered coast far easier to explore; minivans also serve Sichon from the city and from Surat Thani. Sichon also has its own small railway station on the southern line, though only slower ordinary and rapid trains stop there.

How Sichon fits your trip

May suit travelers wanting a lesser-known Gulf-coast beach town with a choice between a sheltered family-friendly beach and a scenic, facility-free boulder beach, plus an inland pilgrimage-temple detour.
