Ban Krut

Ban Krut is a small Gulf-coast town in Prachuap Khiri Khan province with a Southern Line railway stop and a long sandy beach. The central and southern beach strip sits closest to the village, station, and food; north of Khao Thong Chai headland, Thang Sai Beach spreads out with quieter, stand-alone stays. Wat Thang Sai on the hill combines the nine-spired Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat and the Gulf-facing Big Buddha (Luang Pho Yai).

Good to know

Bang Saphan's additional bays and communities lie in the same province but outside Ban Krut village; treat them as an optional day loop when you have your own transport and time, not as walking distance from the station.

Where to stay

Ban Krut's stay choice is mainly central beach near the station versus quieter Thang Sai north of the headland.

  • Central / southern Ban Krut Beach

Closest to the village, railway station, and main food strip along the long sandy beach.

  • Thang Sai Beach

North of Khao Thong Chai headland, with quieter stand-alone stays spread along the sand.

What it's like

Things to do

  • Day trips — Stay within Ban Krut's beach and Wat Thang Sai, or add a deliberate day loop into the wider Bang Saphan district coastline when you have transport and weather—those bays are not part of Ban Krut village itself.
  • Temple landmarks — Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat (nine-spired royal commemorative chedi) and Phra Phuttha Kitti Sirichai (seated Big Buddha with Gulf views)—both within the same Wat Thang Sai hill complex.

Getting there & around

Getting there

Ban Krut is on Thailand's Southern Line—train arrival puts rail travelers closest to the central beach and village. Road travelers typically use the same Gulf-coast corridor by bus or private car from Bangkok or points south. Timetables and fares change—confirm before travel.

Getting around

The central and southern beach area is walkable from the station for meals and the main strip; reaching Thang Sai north of Khao Thong Chai or hilltop Wat Thang Sai is easier with a bicycle, scooter, or short ride.

How Ban Krut fits your trip

May suit travelers who want a low-key, rail-reachable beach base with temple viewpoints, accepting that wider Bang Saphan district coastline is a separate day route—not the same as Ban Krut village.

Dates, other stops, and what matters on this trip can make this fit clearer.

Information used

Wherely research — This page covers central versus Thang Sai stay areas, the two main temple landmarks on Khao Thong Chai, and keeping Ban Krut village separate from a wider Bang Saphan day loop. Exact rail and road fares aren't included because they change too often to publish as fact.
